Patna Implements Strict Boat Ban on Ganga River During Chaiti Chhath Festival
The district administration in Patna has issued a comprehensive ban on all private boat operations in the Ganga River from March 22 to March 25, coinciding with the sacred Chaiti Chhath festival. This decisive measure aims to ensure public safety and prevent accidents during the significant religious observance when thousands of devotees gather at river ghats for rituals.
Enhanced Security Deployment and Surveillance Measures
To enforce the prohibition and maintain order, authorities have mobilized a robust security apparatus. Magistrates, police personnel, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units have been strategically stationed at various river ghats across the city. Eight specialized SDRF units, equipped with motorboats and professional divers, will conduct continuous river patrolling to monitor compliance and respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Surveillance efforts have been significantly bolstered with the integration of advanced technology. CCTV cameras and drones will be deployed to provide real-time monitoring of the riverbanks and water activities, ensuring comprehensive oversight and quick detection of any violations or unsafe practices.
Mandatory Safety Protocols and Enforcement Actions
Zonal officers have been directed to ensure the availability of essential safety equipment at all water bodies. This includes providing an adequate supply of life jackets and safety nets to protect devotees and prevent accidents. The administration has issued a stern warning that any individuals or operators found violating the boat ban will face strict legal prosecution, underscoring the seriousness of the safety initiative.
The coordinated efforts reflect a proactive approach to disaster management and crowd control during high-traffic religious events. By combining traditional security forces with modern surveillance tools and specialized rescue teams, Patna authorities aim to create a secure environment for Chaiti Chhath celebrations while mitigating risks associated with riverine activities.
