Odisha Chief Minister Inaugurates Major Development Push for Kalahandi District
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched a significant development initiative for Kalahandi district on Sunday. He inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects totaling Rs 891.39 crore during the Ghumura festival celebrations in Bhawanipatna.
Massive Project Rollout Across the District
The government rolled out an impressive 3,612 projects in a single day. Officials inaugurated 971 completed projects worth Rs 193.36 crore. They also laid foundation stones for 2,641 new projects valued at Rs 698.3 crore.
Chief Minister Majhi praised Kalahandi's cultural heritage during his address. He called the district one of Odisha's richest cultural belts. Majhi described it as a land filled with emotion, courage, resilience, and dignity.
Substantial Investment in Recent Years
The CM highlighted the government's substantial investment in Kalahandi's development. He noted that projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore have been launched in the past 18 months. This includes a Rs 620-crore package announced last year.
Majhi emphasized this represents one of the highest development outlays for the district in recent years. The government aims to accelerate growth and infrastructure development across Kalahandi.
Major Irrigation Project Receives Central Approval
In a significant announcement, the Chief Minister revealed the Rs 3,325 crore Utei Raul irrigation project has received central approval. Authorities will take up this major irrigation initiative soon.
The government plans to develop Kalahandi-Nabarangpur as a cotton production cluster. Officials will expedite the Belagam Anthanadi reservoir project and the Sandul Barrage to boost agricultural productivity.
Focus on Agricultural Development
Majhi urged farmers to help position Kalahandi as Odisha's top agricultural district. He noted farmer registrations increased from 1.12 lakh last year to 1.21 lakh this year.
The Chief Minister highlighted multiple welfare schemes for farmers. He claimed a farmer family now receives benefits amounting to nearly Rs 71,000 annually through various government programs.
Commitment to Addressing Farmer Concerns
On paddy procurement, Majhi assured farmers both the Centre and state governments stand ready to lift paddy and rice. He promised authorities would address all farmer grievances promptly.
The Chief Minister described his administration as a people's government. He emphasized key priorities including better roads, safe drinking water for every household, and stronger education and health infrastructure.
Majhi's visit to Bhawanipatna during the Ghumura festival celebrations underscored the government's commitment to Kalahandi's development. The substantial project rollout signals a focused effort to boost the district's growth trajectory.
