Odisha Chief Minister Announces Major Development Push for Subarnapur District

In a significant boost to infrastructure and public welfare, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced a comprehensive package of development projects worth Rs 633 crore for Subarnapur district. The announcement was made during a public address at the Subhadra Shakti Mela, where the CM emphasized the state government's commitment to balanced regional growth.

Massive Investment in Key Sectors

Chief Minister Majhi detailed that the newly announced projects span multiple crucial sectors including irrigation, road connectivity, cultural development, sports infrastructure, and urban amenities. These initiatives are designed to substantially enhance the quality of life for residents across Subarnapur district, addressing both immediate needs and long-term development goals.

The flagship project among these announcements is the ambitious Rs 557 crore riverbed reservoir project at Marudagochha. This major irrigation initiative aims to strengthen water management and agricultural facilities in the region, potentially transforming local farming practices and boosting rural economies.

Cultural and Sports Infrastructure Upgrades

Beyond irrigation, the development package includes several notable cultural and sports infrastructure projects:

  • Construction of an open-air theatre at Sanskriti Bhawan with an allocation of Rs 11.23 crore
  • Renovation and modernization of Gandhi Stadium at a cost of Rs 25.28 crore
  • Upgradation of Block Chowk junction with an investment of Rs 4.23 crore

These projects reflect the government's holistic approach to development, recognizing that cultural and recreational facilities are essential components of community well-being.

Foundation Stones and Inaugurations

During the same event, Chief Minister Majhi inaugurated 34 completed projects with a combined value of Rs 103 crore while simultaneously laying foundation stones for 24 new projects totaling Rs 173 crore. These initiatives cover a diverse range of public services and infrastructure:

  1. Road construction and improvement projects
  2. Drinking water supply systems
  3. Irrigation facilities
  4. Healthcare infrastructure
  5. Educational institutions
  6. Rural development programs
  7. Urban amenities and services

Focus on Inclusive Development

Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi emphasized that these projects would significantly strengthen Subarnapur's development trajectory while ensuring balanced growth across both rural and urban areas. "Our focus is on inclusive development so that every citizen benefits from improved infrastructure and public services," the Chief Minister stated, highlighting the government's commitment to equitable progress.

The development push aims to create sustainable infrastructure that serves all sections of society, particularly focusing on marginalized communities and remote areas that have historically received less attention in development planning.

Tribute to Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Majhi visited the Samadhi Peeth of Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi at Khaliapali, paying homage to the revered spiritual figure whom he described as "a guiding force of Odisha's social and spiritual consciousness." During this visit, the CM announced an allocation of Rs 35 crore for the comprehensive development of the memorial site, recognizing its cultural and historical significance.

This additional allocation brings the total development commitment for the region to Rs 668 crore when combined with the Subarnapur district projects, demonstrating the state government's substantial investment in western Odisha's progress.
