A multi-wheel truck transporting equipment for the upcoming Units 5 and 6 of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) at Kaiga Generating Station overturned near Hartuga village, about 10 km from Kaiga, on Thursday evening.

Incident Details

According to preliminary information, the driver lost control while negotiating a curve, despite the vehicle reportedly moving at a slow speed of under 10 kmph. Eyewitnesses said the heavily loaded trolley toppled with a loud crash, causing alarm in the area. No injuries were reported.

Road Blockage and Recovery Efforts

The overturned vehicle and its cargo blocked the road, posing a challenge for officials engaged in clearing the route and recovering the equipment. The machinery, meant for nuclear reactor construction, was being transported from North India under tight security arrangements.

Public Concerns

The consignment had passed through Karwar town about two weeks ago, triggering public concern. Residents had objected to the movement of such heavy equipment through city roads and along the Kaiga–Karwar route, citing fears of potential road damage.

Official Response

Senior police officials visited the spot to assess the situation and oversee further action. Efforts are under way to remove the vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.
