The Telangana government has made it clear that there will be no relaxation in the eligibility criteria for its flagship free electricity scheme. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka firmly stated that the scheme is strictly for those whose monthly power consumption does not exceed 200 units.
Strict Adherence to the 200-Unit Limit
Responding to queries in the state assembly, Vikramarka addressed concerns from some members about consumers receiving bills after crossing the consumption threshold. He emphasized that the scheme's guidelines are unambiguous. Free electricity is applicable only to domestic consumers who use less than 200 units per month. Any consumption beyond this limit will be billed as per normal tariffs.
The minister clarified that the government is bearing the entire cost of this subsidy. He also provided crucial information for beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing scheme, confirming that they too are eligible to avail of the free power benefit, provided their consumption stays within the stipulated 200-unit cap.
Procedure for Those Facing Issues
Recognizing that some eligible consumers might face difficulties in availing the scheme due to technical or administrative reasons, Vikramarka outlined a redressal mechanism. He advised that anyone unable to access the scheme can apply at their local Mandal Parishad Development Office (MPDO). This step is intended to ensure that all entitled beneficiaries receive the support without hassle.
Funds Assured for Adilabad's Chanaka-Korata Barrage
In a related development during the assembly's question hour, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy addressed infrastructure funding. He gave assurances regarding the Chanaka-Korata barrage project in the Adilabad district. Reddy stated that sufficient funds would be released for the crucial barrage project.
He further announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and he would soon undertake a visit to Adilabad district. During this visit, they will assess the project's progress and needs. The minister assured the assembly that all necessary irrigation and development projects in the region would receive the financial support they require for timely completion.
These announcements underscore the state government's focus on maintaining welfare commitments while ensuring fiscal discipline, and on prioritizing infrastructure development in key districts.
