NCP Demands CBI Investigation into Ajit Pawar's Death Following Baramati Plane Crash

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has formally demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who tragically died in a plane crash in Baramati last month. This call for a high-level investigation comes amid growing political controversy and public unease over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Delegation Submits Memorandum to Chief Minister

On Tuesday, a delegation of senior NCP leaders submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging a CBI-led investigation. The delegation included Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, along with prominent party figures such as NCP National Working President and MP Praful Patel, State President and MP Sunil Tatkare, Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, and youth leader Parth Pawar. Their collective demand underscores the party's serious concerns about the crash and its aftermath.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Ajit Pawar and four others lost their lives on the morning of January 28 when the aircraft carrying them crashed while attempting to land at the Baramati airport in Pune district. The incident has since sparked significant political debate, with the NCP (SP), along with allies Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Indian National Congress, raising questions and alleging possible "foul play". This has led to calls for transparency and accountability in the investigation process.

Political Leaders Voice Concerns and Demand Answers

Earlier on Tuesday, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule expressed growing unease over the circumstances of Pawar's death, stating that the civil aviation ministry should clarify the facts. She highlighted that Ajit Pawar was the uncle of Rohit Pawar, who, along with others, has serious concerns about the matter. Sule noted that Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress have fully supported their stance, advocating for parliamentary discussion and even meeting the Speaker to address the issue. "There are many questions in the minds of the people, and they deserve answers," Sule emphasized.

Criticism of Investigation Pace and Allegations of Delay

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar criticized the slow pace of the investigation, alleging that nearly 20 days after the crash, there has been little visible progress. He raised alarming questions about potential evidence destruction or protection for involved parties, particularly referencing the VSR company. "20 days have passed since the unfortunate accident, yet the investigation hasn't gained any momentum. Is the delay solely to allow the VSR company to destroy evidence or does the company have someone's protection?" he questioned. Rohit Pawar also mentioned reports of the black box being damaged, suggesting that his earlier predictions might be coming true, and vowed not to rest until answers are provided on whether the incident was an accident or something more sinister.

The demand for a CBI probe reflects broader political tensions in Maharashtra, with parties seeking clarity and justice in the wake of this tragic event. As investigations continue, the call for a thorough and impartial inquiry remains a focal point in state politics.
