Nashik East Residents Voice Concerns Over Safety and Traffic
Residents in the Nashik East division of the city are speaking out about serious safety and traffic issues. Many parts of this area lie close to major highways like the Mumbai-Agra and Nashik-Pune routes. This location brings both convenience and problems.
Highway Proximity Fuels Chain Robbery Fears
People living here say the easy access to highways gives criminals a quick escape route after committing chain robberies. Residents from Kathe Galli, Indiranagar, and Ashoka Marg report that crime has been increasing steadily over the past few years. They feel existing police measures are not enough.
"A police chowkey in Kathe Galli or occasional patrols in other areas have done little to solve this problem," said one frustrated local. The community believes round-the-clock police checkpoints are urgently needed in these neighborhoods to deter criminals.
Umesh Gaikwad of Ashoka Marg shared a tragic example. "A few years ago, a woman named Sheila Gaikwad died in the Nasardi area. She fell off her scooter while trying to fight off two robbers on a bike who were snatching her bag," he recalled. He emphasized that such chain robberies have not decreased since then.
Heavy Vehicle Traffic Creates Daily Hazards
Another major complaint comes from residents of Takli, Ramdas Swami Nagar, DGP Nagar, and Pandav Nagari. They face constant danger from heavy trucks and containers moving through their residential zones.
This traffic flows along the road connecting the Mumbai-Agra highway with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Road. It intersects the Nashik-Pune highway at the Fame Multiplex signal. The road cuts right through densely populated residential areas.
"Accidents happen frequently on this route," noted a concerned citizen. "Sometimes truckers even use narrow colony roads meant for local traffic." Past accidents have prompted protests from affected communities.
Mukesh Sharma, a banker living in Ramdas Swami Nagar, proposed a solution. "The only way forward is for our elected representatives to ban heavy commercial vehicles from entering the city during daytime hours," he stated. He sees no relief from the growing traffic flow otherwise.
Adding to the transport woes, city bus services remain scarce in these parts. People mostly rely on their own vehicles or autorickshaws to get around.
Old City Areas Need Redevelopment
Meanwhile, older neighborhoods like Ganjamal, Mahatma Phule Market area, Motha Rajwada, and Nanaswali present different challenges. These are mixed areas with slums and old settlements.
Many residents here feel the government should initiate redevelopment projects. They want to see modern buildings replace single-storey houses. Wider roads would improve commuting and emergency access.
Currently, the dense layout leads to mosquito infestations and waterlogging during monsoon rains. In case of a fire, fire tenders struggle to reach the spot through the narrow lanes.
Encroachment Issues on Key Roads
In Bhabha Nagar, encroachment on the road from Kathe Galli signal to Mumbai Naka junction has become a significant problem. More drivers are using this route to avoid the perennially congested Dwarka junction. This increased traffic highlights the need for clear, unobstructed roads.
The people of Nashik East are calling for immediate attention from authorities. They want stronger police action against crime and better traffic management to ensure their safety and quality of life.
