Nagpur Police Deploy 5,500 Personnel for NMC Elections with Dynamic Security Strategy
Nagpur city police have implemented a comprehensive security plan involving 5,500 personnel for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for Thursday. Police officials stated the deployment aims to ensure orderly polling across the entire city.
Dynamic Security Blueprint
Police authorities have kept the bandobast blueprint dynamic. Forces and deployment patterns will adjust based on ground intelligence over the next seventy-two hours. An official confirmed this approach, noting that home guards have also been deployed for election duty.
Two platoons of the State Reserve Police Force remain on standby. A medical team will also remain available for any emergencies during the polling process.
Sensitive Areas Under Close Watch
Police and intelligence units have identified multiple sensitive pockets requiring close monitoring. These areas include Mominpura, Tajbagh, Yashodhara Nagar, Lakadganj, Malewada, Gittikhadan, Hazaripahad, Gadhigodam, Hudkeshwar, and Tekanaka. Parts under Yashodhara Nagar police station limits also feature on the sensitive list.
Several polling booths have received sensitive classification. Authorities have arranged webcasting, static pickets, and mobile patrolling teams at these locations.
Specialized Force Deployment
Riot-control police commando platoons will station at the control room and identified sensitive locations. These units stand ready to respond to any law and order situations that may arise during voting.
Of the total security force, approximately 4,000 personnel come from Nagpur city police. This includes about 500 officers operating under Commissioner Ravinder Singal and Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy.
Technological Surveillance
Police will deploy five CCTV-fitted multipurpose special utility vehicles at different locations across the city. Officials confirmed drones will also see use during the election process for enhanced monitoring.
Additional Personnel Reinforcement
An additional 1,500 personnel are arriving from outside Nagpur city to reinforce local arrangements. These forces come from the Maharashtra Police Academy, rural units, specialized wings, and adjoining districts.
Political Contest Context
The Mahayuti alliance comprising BJP and Shiv Sena has fielded candidates in all municipal wards. Congress and other opposition parties are contesting strongly in several areas.
According to police and intelligence inputs, thirty-one of the thirty-eight wards will likely witness close contests. These contests primarily involve competition between BJP and Congress candidates.
