The Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL), a key power distribution company under UPPCL, has witnessed an unprecedented and overwhelming public response to its ongoing One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. The initiative, designed to resolve long-pending electricity dues, has led to a significant revenue recovery for the discom within a single month.
Record Revenue Collection in December
Throughout the month of December, the scheme has proven to be a major success, bringing in a substantial Rs 37.61 crore in revenue. This impressive collection was achieved through registrations by a total of 51,049 consumers who opted to settle their outstanding bills under the scheme's terms. The response highlights a strong public inclination to clear pending dues and regularize their electricity connections.
Single-Day Surge and Consumer Breakdown
The popularity of the scheme was particularly evident on one remarkable day, where MVVNL recorded a staggering Rs 7.37 crore in revenue from 13,511 registrations. A detailed analysis of the participants reveals two major consumer groups coming forward. A significant number, 38,091 consumers, had pending bills for an extended period, while 12,958 consumers who had never previously paid their electricity bills also registered to avail the settlement benefits.
Zone-Wise Performance Highlights
The scheme saw active participation across all MVVNL distribution offices, with several zones reporting outstanding collections:
- Bareilly zone led the tally, collecting Rs 12.26 crore from 13,894 consumers.
- Ayodhya zone followed closely with 12,882 registrations, generating Rs 10.28 crore.
- Sitapur zone registered 10,623 consumers, contributing Rs 6.33 crore.
- Devipatan zone reported 7,912 registrations and Rs 4.11 crore in revenue, with its Bahraich division alone accounting for 2,235 registrations.
- Raebareli zone contributed Rs 3.95 crore from 5,331 consumers.
- Hardoi division added Rs 2.17 crore through 3,376 registrations.
Notable Participation in Lucknow District
Within the state capital, Lucknow district also showed significant engagement with the OTS scheme. Key areas contributed notably to the overall revenue:
- Amausi: 300 consumers
- Jankipuram: 71 consumers
- Lucknow Central: 20 consumers
- Gomtinagar: 16 consumers
Collectively, these areas in Lucknow district contributed approximately Rs 67 lakh to the discom's recovered revenue, demonstrating the scheme's reach in urban centers.
Implications and Moving Forward
The massive response to the UPPCL's one-time settlement scheme underscores a successful effort by MVVNL to address the challenge of outstanding electricity dues. It provides a financial respite to the discom while offering consumers a structured path to become bill-compliant. This initiative not only boosts immediate revenue collection but also aims to improve the overall financial health of the power distribution system in the region by bringing a large number of defaulting consumers back into the formal billing cycle.
