Mumbai Civic Polls: Counting Underway with BJP-Shiv Sena in Early Lead

Counting for the high-stakes Mumbai municipal corporation elections started on Friday, 16 January. The process is now in full swing across the city.

Early trends from television channels indicate a strong performance by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ally Shiv Sena. They are reportedly ahead in as many as 210 of the total 227 wards.

The State Election Commission has not yet provided any official confirmation of these numbers. However, multiple news broadcasts are painting a clear picture of the initial lead.

Thane Municipal Corporation Sees Saffron Surge

All eyes are on the Thane Municipal Corporation, where a significant saffron wave appears to be forming. This corporation comprises 13 wards.

Voting for the TMC elections took place on 15 January. The results are scheduled for declaration on 16 January, with the counting process already initiated.

In the previous TMC election held back in 2017, a total of 131 seats were contested. The Shiv Sena emerged victorious at that time, securing 67 seats.

The Nationalist Congress Party managed to win 35 seats during the last election. The BJP had a more modest showing, winning in 23 wards.

Current trends suggest a notable shift in the political landscape of Thane this time around.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation Results Draw Attention

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation election result has also captured significant public interest. The main contenders here are part of the Mahayuti alliance.

This alliance includes the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Eknath Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena. They are working together in this crucial civic battle.

Nagpur holds strong BJP influence historically. The city is home to several influential political leaders from the party.

Notable figures include Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Their presence underscores the city's political importance.

As widely anticipated, the BJP is leading in a majority of seats within the Nagpur Municipal Corporation according to early trends. The Shinde Sena is following closely behind in this race.

The counting process continues across both major municipal corporations. Final results are expected to provide a clearer picture of Maharashtra's civic political map.
