Haveri Officials Deny SIR Work at Mosque, DC Visits Spot

District officials in Haveri, Karnataka, have refuted allegations that Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work was being conducted at a local mosque. The denial came after the Deputy Commissioner (DC) visited the site and gathered information from officials present.

DC Visits Site After Reports of BLO's Leg Pain

The DC was informed that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) experienced leg pain following door-to-door visits in the area. The pain was attributed to the extensive walking involved in the revision work, not to any activity at the mosque.

Officials clarified that the SIR work, which involves updating voter lists, was carried out in public spaces and not within the mosque premises. The mosque was only used as a meeting point for officials before they dispersed for field visits.

Claims of SIR Work at Mosque Dismissed

Rumors had circulated that the SIR work was being conducted inside the mosque, leading to tensions. However, the DC's visit confirmed that no such activity took place there. The officials reiterated that all electoral processes are carried out in accordance with the law and without any religious bias.

The incident highlights the sensitivity surrounding religious spaces in India, where even unsubstantiated claims can cause unrest. The district administration has urged the public to verify information before spreading rumors.

According to a senior official, “The BLO's leg pain was a result of walking long distances, not due to any work at the mosque. We have clarified this to the public.”
