MPPSC Food Safety Officer Interviews Commence After 17-Year Hiatus
The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission has initiated the interview process for the recruitment of Food Safety Officers, marking a significant milestone after a prolonged gap of 17 years. This crucial step, which began on Wednesday, is aimed at addressing long-standing vacancies in the state's food safety department.
Recruitment Drive Details and Vacancy Revisions
This recruitment drive is considered one of the Commission's most important examinations, with the objective of filling 123 posts. The number of vacancies has undergone several revisions throughout the process, creating uncertainty among applicants.
Initially, approximately 120 positions were announced nearly one-and-a-half years ago, but the notification was subsequently cancelled. When the recruitment was reissued, the number of posts was reduced to 67, sparking protests from aspiring candidates. Just before the results were declared, an additional 56 posts were incorporated, bringing the final count to 123 vacancies.
Candidate Selection and Examination Statistics
A total of 480 candidates have been shortlisted for the interview round, which represents the final stage of the selection process. The written examination was conducted on December 14, 2025, with nearly 44,000 candidates registered for the test.
However, only about 59 percent of registered candidates actually appeared for the examination. The results, declared on January 21, 2026, identified 382 candidates in the main list and 98 candidates in the provisional list, all of whom will proceed to the interview phase.
Interview Process and Timeline
To ensure the timely completion of interviews, the Commission has established four separate interview boards. Each board will conduct interviews for approximately 85 to 90 candidates daily, allowing the entire process to be completed within eight days.
Officials have indicated that the final selection list is expected to be released by April 30, or during the first week of May. Appointments to the concerned departments are likely to follow in May, providing successful candidates with their official postings.
Interview Significance and Competition
The interview carries substantial weight in the overall selection process, accounting for 50 marks out of a total of 500 marks. This makes it a decisive stage that could significantly impact final rankings and selections.
Given that interviews are being conducted after nearly two decades, competition remains exceptionally high among the shortlisted candidates. The extended gap since the last recruitment cycle has created pent-up demand among job seekers, intensifying the selection process.
The Commission's efforts to streamline the interview process through multiple boards demonstrates their commitment to efficient and transparent recruitment. This development represents a positive step toward strengthening the state's food safety infrastructure by filling critical positions that have remained vacant for years.
