Mizoram Assembly Budget Session Summoned for Feb 17

The budget session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly is set to commence on February 17, marking a significant event in the state's political calendar. Governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh has officially summoned the session based on a notification released by the assembly secretariat.

Key Details of the Upcoming Assembly Session

This sitting will be the sixth session of the ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly. A major highlight of the session will be the presentation of the state's annual budget by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who also holds the finance portfolio. This will be the third annual state budget presented by the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) government since it assumed office on December 8, 2023.

Schedule and Proceedings to be Finalized

The detailed calendar for the session, including the specific date for the presentation of the 2026–2027 fiscal budget, will be finalized by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). This committee is chaired by the Assembly Speaker, Lalbiakzama. Officials have indicated that the duration of the session will be flexible and depend primarily on the volume of legislative business.

What Determines the Session's Length?

According to the assembly secretariat, the length of the budget session will be contingent on the number of government bills and other official matters submitted by the state government for discussion and approval. This allows the proceedings to be comprehensive, ensuring all planned legislative work is addressed.

The session is keenly awaited as it will outline the financial roadmap and policy priorities of the ZPM government for the upcoming fiscal year, providing insights into its developmental agenda for Mizoram.
