Minister Narayana Urges VMRDA to Accelerate Development Projects in Visakhapatnam
In a significant move to boost urban infrastructure, State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana has directed officials of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to expedite the completion of various development projects under the authority's purview. The minister issued these directives during a comprehensive review meeting held at the secretariat, which saw the participation of key officials from multiple departments.
High-Level Review Meeting at Secretariat
The review session was attended by MAUD Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Director Sampath Kumar, VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat, Town Planning Department Director Vidyullatha, and other senior VMRDA officials. This gathering underscored the government's commitment to streamlining urban development efforts in the region.
Focus on Master Plan Finalization
During the meeting, Minister Narayana emphasized the urgent need for VMRDA to finalize its master plan as quickly as possible. Officials provided an update, explaining that VMRDA had already issued a notification inviting public suggestions and objections on the master plan, with a deadline set for March 10. This step is crucial for incorporating community feedback into the planning process.
Key Infrastructure Projects Highlighted
The minister also called for the swift completion of the Visakhapatnam–Kakinada Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (VKPCPIR) master plan. Additionally, priority is being given to seven key roads connecting Visakhapatnam to the upcoming Bhogapuram international airport. Some of these road projects have already been tendered, and Minister Narayana stressed that they must be completed within the stipulated timelines to ensure seamless connectivity.
Discussion on Major Road and PPP Projects
The meeting further delved into the proposed Visakhapatnam semi-ring road project, which will span from Bhogapuram to Rambilli in Anakapalli district. Officials briefed the minister on projects being implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. A total of six projects are currently being undertaken under PPP, and the minister directed that these initiatives be studied thoroughly, with tenders issued at the earliest to avoid delays.
Comprehensive Coverage of Development Initiatives
Discussions also covered a wide range of other critical areas, including:
- Engineering works in assembly constituencies within VMRDA's jurisdiction.
- Projects under the Visakhapatnam Economic Region project.
- The Kailasagiri master plan for tourism and urban enhancement.
- Land pooling arrangements for MIG layout projects being undertaken by VMRDA.
This review meeting highlights the government's proactive approach to addressing urban development challenges and ensuring timely execution of infrastructure projects in Visakhapatnam.
