Mayawati Pays Tribute to Sant Ravidas, Criticizes Rivals

On Sunday, BSP chief Mayawati paid heartfelt tributes to Sant Guru Ravidas on the occasion of his birth anniversary. She emphasized that his humanitarian message carries immense significance in today's environment, which she described as being plagued by narrow-mindedness and hatred.

Mayawati Criticizes Political Rivals Over District Name Change

During her address, Mayawati highlighted the work undertaken by her government in Uttar Pradesh to uphold the legacy of the social reformer and thinker. She specifically mentioned that the BSP government created a new Sant Ravidas district while preserving Bhadohi as the district headquarters.

However, she accused the Samajwadi Party government of changing this due to what she called its casteist mindset and political hatred. Mayawati further stated that the present BJP government has not restored the district's name to Sant Ravidas, which she described as very sad.

BSP's Contributions to Sant Ravidas Legacy

Mayawati detailed several initiatives undertaken by her government to honor Sant Ravidas:

  • Establishment of Sant Ravidas Park and Ghat in Varanasi, the birthplace of Sant Ravidas
  • Construction of Sant Guru Ravidas Government College in Faizabad
  • Installation of his statue in Varanasi
  • Creation of the Sant Ravidas Samman award

She asserted that these efforts demonstrate her party's commitment to preserving the social reformer's legacy, in contrast to what she perceives as the hateful and casteist thinking of rival parties.
