Marathwada Civic Polls: Khultabad & Loha Lead with 82% Voter Turnout
Marathwada Civic Polls: High Voter Turnout Recorded

Local body elections across Marathwada witnessed a significant and varied voter response, with two civic bodies setting a high benchmark for participation. The elections, held on Tuesday, saw Khultabad in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district and Loha in Nanded district each recording an impressive 82% voter turnout. This was the highest among the 46 local self-governing bodies that went to the polls.

Turnout Trends: Highs and Lows Across Districts

Official data released on Wednesday painted a contrasting picture across the region. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Beed Municipal Council registered the lowest turnout at just 59%. In Georai Municipal Council, also in Beed district, where clashes were reported between BJP and rival groups, the turnout stood at a respectable 73%.

Parli Municipal Council, a keenly watched contest where the BJP, led locally by cabinet minister Pankaja Munde, and the NCP, represented by MLA Dhananjay Munde, contested in an alliance, reported a 64% voter participation.

Bodies with Over 75% Participation

A substantial number of other civic bodies demonstrated strong civic engagement, with each recording a turnout exceeding 75%. These included:

  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district: Kannad
  • Jalna district: Ambad and Bhokardan
  • Parbhani district: Sonpeth and Pathri
  • Latur district: Ausa
  • Dharashiv district: Tuljapur, Bhoom, and Paranda
  • Beed district: Majalgaon
  • Nanded district: Bhokar, Biloli, Kundalwadi, Himayat Nagar, and Kandhar

Reactions and the Road to Results

BJP regional secretary Kiran Patil described the overall voter participation in the Marathwada region as satisfactory. He attributed the healthy turnout to increased public awareness, consistent appeals from party leaders, and the amplifying influence of social media campaigns.

The process, however, has entered a phase of anxious waiting for candidates. The vote counting, initially scheduled for sooner, has been postponed to December 21. This delay has extended the anticipation for all contenders.

Expressing the sentiment of many candidates, Vinod Muluk, an NCP candidate from Beed, said, "We were expecting results the day after polling as per the earlier schedule, but unavoidable circumstances have delayed the process. We remain hopeful and look forward to the counting day." The focus now shifts to December 21, when the verdict of the electorate will finally be revealed.
