Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday dismissed a video that the Akal Takht cited to issue an edict against him, calling it "false propaganda" orchestrated by religious bodies at the behest of their political masters. In a video message, Mann expressed surprise that the top brass of religious institutions would engage in such tactics to defame him.
Allegations of False Propaganda
Mann stated that the person shown in the video is not him and accused certain quarters of spreading misinformation. He emphasized that the video was manipulated and taken out of context to tarnish his image. The chief minister urged the public not to fall for such propaganda and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Punjab.
Akal Takht Edict
The Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, had issued an edict against Mann based on the controversial video. The edict called for an explanation from the chief minister regarding his alleged actions. However, Mann's denial has added a new twist to the ongoing political and religious tensions in the state.
Political analysts believe that this incident could further strain relations between the Punjab government and religious institutions. The chief minister's office has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but Mann's video message is seen as a direct challenge to the Akal Takht's authority.
