Mann accuses BJP of misusing central agencies to harass traders

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to harass traders in the state. His comments came after the ED conducted raids at multiple locations in Punjab as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities.

Mann's Allegations

Speaking to reporters, Mann said, "The BJP is misusing central agencies to target and harass traders in Punjab. This is a clear misuse of power for political vendetta." He further alleged that the raids were conducted without proper evidence and were aimed at intimidating the trading community.

Protecting Traders' Interests

The Chief Minister assured traders that his government would stand with them and take all necessary steps to protect their interests. "We will not allow anyone to harass our traders. The state government will provide all legal support to those affected," he added.

ED Raids in Punjab

The ED raids were carried out in several districts of Punjab, including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Amritsar, in connection with a money laundering case. Officials seized documents and digital devices during the searches. The agency has not yet issued an official statement regarding the raids.

Political Reactions

The opposition BJP dismissed Mann's allegations, calling them a diversionary tactic. BJP spokesperson Vineet Joshi said, "The ED operates independently, and any action is based on evidence. The Chief Minister is trying to shield those involved in illegal activities."

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has been at loggerheads with the central government over several issues, including the alleged misuse of central agencies. This is not the first time Mann has accused the BJP of targeting opposition-ruled states through federal agencies.
