Mangaluru to Launch Akka Pade for Women & Child Safety

District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has announced that the Akka Pade initiative will be launched within the Mangaluru police commissionerate limits to ensure the safety of women and children. He made this statement during the 77th Republic Day ceremony held in Mangaluru on Monday.

Akka Pade Initiative Details

The Akka Pade initiative is a comprehensive program that comprises police personnel, NCC cadets, and social workers. These teams are equipped with vehicles and modern facilities to enhance their effectiveness in the field. This initiative was recently launched in the Dakshina Kannada police limits, and the government is now taking steps to extend it to the commissionerate limits in Mangaluru.

Government's Commitment to Law and Order

Minister Rao emphasized the government's decisive measures to maintain law and order. He stated that divisive forces pose a significant impediment to progress, and it is crucial to face this reality squarely. The improved state of law and order has established a strong foundation for comprehensive development, which is expected to generate local employment and reduce youth migration.

The minister warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to mislead the youth into violence for personal gain. He also highlighted the stringent actions taken to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse, along with awareness campaigns conducted to protect students.

Criticism of Central Government's Job Scheme

In his Republic Day speech, Minister Rao criticized the BJP-led government at the Centre for abruptly scrapping the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He described the new job guarantee scheme, VB–G RAM G, as anti-poor, anti-labour, and unconstitutional.

"The new scheme undermines the powers that panchayats enjoyed under decentralisation," he said. The state government is committed to opposing this new scheme both morally and legally.

Republic Day Felicitations and Parade

During the Republic Day ceremony, the family of Sindhusri from Bettampady in Sullia taluk was felicitated. Sindhusri's organs were donated after she was declared brain-dead, and her family was honored for this noble act.

Ananya Srivatsav, a probationary IPS officer in Dakshina Kannada, led the platoons during the Republic Day Parade as the chief commander. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLC Ivan D'Souza, DC Darshan HV, City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, and SP Arun K.

The government's initiatives, including the Akka Pade program and measures against drug abuse, reflect a broader commitment to public safety and social welfare in the region.
