Man Hacks Father, Wife to Death in Jharkhand

A horrific incident unfolded in Sengratoli village under Lohardaga district on Monday morning, where a 35-year-old man allegedly hacked his elderly father and wife to death with an axe and critically injured his three-year-old daughter. The accused, identified as Sandeep Oraon, 30, was arrested by the police shortly after the attack. The deceased were identified as Surendra Oraon, 60, and his daughter-in-law Sujata Oraon, 27. The injured child, Riyanshi, is currently undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, the argument escalated around 5 am, after which Sandeep picked up an axe and attacked his father first. He then turned on his wife and daughter. Hearing the screams, neighbors rushed to the house but found Surendra and Sujata already dead, while the child was writhing in pain. They immediately alerted the authorities.

Police Response

Bhandra police station officer in-charge Manoj Kumar Gupta, who reached the spot with his team, rushed the injured child to the local community health centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment, she was referred to Rims. Police have recovered the axe used in the crime.

Gupta stated, “Preliminary investigation suggests the incident was the fallout of a family dispute, though police are thoroughly investigating all aspects. The accused is being questioned to ascertain the exact reason.”

Background of the Accused

Villagers claimed that Sandeep’s behavior had appeared unusual recently, with frequent quarrels breaking out in the family. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
