West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday released a video message to energize the Trinamool Congress (TMC) counting agents as early trends indicated a strong surge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across the state. She urged her party workers not to feel disheartened, emphasizing that only two to three rounds of counting had been completed, with over 15 rounds still pending.
Mamata's Address to Party Workers
Directing party candidates and counting agents to remain at the counting centers, Mamata expressed confidence that the TMC would emerge victorious after sunset. She stated, "There is no need for anyone to be afraid." Seeking a fourth consecutive term, she alleged foul play by the Election Commission (EC) and claimed that the BJP had a plan to show themselves ahead initially.
Allegations of Irregularities
Mamata accused the EC of stopping counting at multiple locations and claimed that machines with discrepancies were found in Kalyani. "Atrocities are being committed against TMC from all sides through central forces," she alleged. She reiterated her earlier accusations of vote theft through the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SIR) process, stating that the TMC was ahead by more than 100 seats, which was not being reported accurately.
"Through SIR, they tried to steal votes, and even now, we are ahead by more than 100 seats, which is not being reported. Everything is being reported wrong. The Election Commission is working entirely as per its own will, and central forces are also with them. The police are also working with the central forces," she claimed. She added, "I tell party workers that there is no need to feel disheartened; you will win after sunset. The counting of 2-4 rounds has taken place, the counting goes up to 14-18 rounds, and we will win. There is no need for anyone to be afraid."
Counting Trends
In the West Bengal elections, early counting trends showed a significant surge for the BJP, with the party moving past the majority mark of 148 seats and leading in over 180 constituencies at various points. The TMC, in contrast, was trailing significantly, hovering around 90 seats in initial tallies. These numbers indicate a potential shift in the state's political landscape, which has been dominated by the TMC for over a decade.
