West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from Bhabanipur, Mamata Banerjee, has given her first reaction after early counting trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) crossing the majority mark in the state. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Banerjee alleged irregularities in the ongoing counting process and advised party workers and counting agents not to leave the counting centres.
Allegations of Irregularities
Banerjee claimed that the BJP is being shown ahead in the initial rounds of counting, but asserted that the real picture would emerge later in the process. She said, 'We will win after sunset,' expressing confidence that the TMC would secure victory once all rounds of counting are completed.
Questioning the Election Commission
The Chief Minister also questioned the role of the Election Commission, alleging that reports from the ground level are not being reflected correctly. She accused the central forces of being misused and urged party workers to remain calm and confident.
'There is a clear misuse of central forces. The Election Commission should ensure a fair and transparent counting process,' Banerjee said in her address.
Call for Vigilance
Banerjee instructed TMC counting agents to stay alert and not leave their posts until the final result is declared. She alleged that the initial trends are misleading and that the true mandate of the people would be known only after all votes are counted.
'Our workers should not be intimidated. The BJP may be ahead now, but the final outcome will be in our favor,' she added.
The counting of votes for the West Bengal assembly elections is underway, with tight security arrangements in place. The TMC has been in power in the state for over a decade, and this election is seen as a crucial test for both the ruling party and the opposition BJP.
