Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Pledges to Include LITU in State's Natural Farming Mission
Maharashtra to Include LITU in Natural Farming Mission

In a significant move towards sustainable agriculture, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the state government's intent to collaborate with leading educational institutions for its ambitious Natural Farming Mission. The announcement came during a high-profile alumni event in Nagpur, where the CM outlined a vision for large-scale ecological transformation.

Institutional Partnership for a Green Future

Speaking at the valedictory function of the 'Global Alumni Meet: Udaan 2025–26', organized by the Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University (LITU) Alumni Association (LITA), Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed his satisfaction with the commitment shown by LITU and other stakeholders. He confirmed that the government will actively try to include such institutions in the state's Natural Farming Mission.

The mission has a clear target: to bring at least 25 lakh hectares of land under natural farming within the next two to three years. This massive scale-up is seen as crucial for restoring soil health, reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and ensuring the production of safe, toxin-free food for the population.

Driving a Circular Economy and Green Job Creation

Fadnavis emphasized that the mission rests on two pivotal pillars: the promotion of natural farming itself and the rapid growth of a circular economy fueled by institutional participation. "This would lead to the creation of large-scale green jobs across agriculture, food processing, and allied sectors," the Chief Minister stated, highlighting the economic potential of the ecological shift.

He pointed out that contemporary challenges for farmers, including climate change, soaring input costs, and global market volatility, necessitate innovative solutions. "Sustainable solutions, research-led innovation and strong institutional participation are critical to addressing these challenges," Fadnavis asserted. He added that Maharashtra must synchronize its education, technology, and policy frameworks to build long-term economic and environmental resilience.

LITU's Commitment and the Path Ahead

The CM specifically noted LITU's commitment to developing scientific solutions for natural farming and mitigating the harmful effects of pesticide use. The event, held at Persistent Hall in Nagpur's IT Park, also saw the presentation of the 'Jewel of LIT' and 'Youth Icon' awards.

The gathering was attended by several dignitaries, including Solar Group of Industries chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal, Padma Shri awardee Dr. Ganpati Yadav (Chairman of LIT University's Board of Governors), alumni association president Madhav Labhe, secretary Utkarsh Khopkar, chief adviser Mohan Pandey, chancellor Dr. Atul Vaidya, ZydeX's Shailendra Singh, and Udaan 2024–25 organising head Rakesh Gupta.

Outlining the operational strategy, Fadnavis said the Natural Farming Mission will concentrate on comprehensive farmer training and continuous scientific support. This approach is designed to enable cultivators to understand on-ground problems and adopt effective, eco-friendly solutions. With this mission, Maharashtra aims to position itself as a national leader in the realm of natural and sustainable farming practices.
