Nashik Political Rally Sparks Drug Allegations and Police Complaint
Water Resources Department Minister Girish Mahajan made serious accusations during a political rally in Nashik on Monday night. Speaking at Pawan Nagar, Mahajan claimed that Pravin Tidme, the Shiv Sena's city unit president, supports drug peddlers.
Minister Calls for Voter Action
Mahajan directly appealed to electors not to vote for Tidme or his party. He showed video and photographs at the rally. These images purportedly showed Tidme sharing candid moments with individuals accused of supplying drugs.
"We can see that those who are engaged in providing drugs are sharing sweets with Tidme," Mahajan stated. "They are even engaged in celebrations with Tidme on several occasions. This is very bad."
The minister emphasized the impact on youth. "If the youth are supplied with drugs by people who are friends with Tidme, then the voters should carefully decide whom to vote for," he said.
Mahajan clarified his party's stance. He asserted that the BJP does not support any kind of drugs or their supply. The rally was organized in support of BJP candidate Kailas Chumbhale.
Tidme Files Police Complaint
Pravin Tidme strongly objected to Mahajan's claims. He approached the Ambad police station immediately after the allegations surfaced. Tidme filed an application demanding that an FIR be registered against Kailas Chumbhale.
The complaint cites sections 356 and 357 of the BNS. These sections deal with defamation and printing matter known to be defamatory.
"I am contesting the elections, and Kailas Chumbhale is circulating these fake videos and photographs," Tidme alleged. "They are morphed, baseless, fabricated, and intended to tarnish the reputation and character of a candidate."
Tidme explained the political motive. "This is intended to create a false perception among voters," he said.
Police Response and Political Context
The Ambad police confirmed they received Tidme's application. Officers stated they would do the needful in this matter. No immediate action was announced at the time of reporting.
This incident highlights the intense political competition in Nashik. The Shiv Sena-NCP combine is pitted against the BJP in the ongoing corporation elections. Both sides are actively campaigning to win voter support.
Mahajan's rally focused on mobilizing support for BJP candidates. Tidme's complaint represents a defensive move to protect his electoral prospects. The exchange underscores how allegations can quickly escalate during election seasons.
Voters in Nashik now face these competing narratives as they prepare to cast their ballots. The outcome may influence local governance and future political strategies in the region.
