Madurai: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening when a Madurai Corporation councillor succumbed to a cardiac arrest. T Kumaravel, 61, who served as the CPM councillor for ward 23, was traveling from his residence in Panangadi to the city on his two-wheeler. He experienced severe chest discomfort near Alangulam and subsequently lost consciousness, falling from his vehicle.
Bystanders quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Kumaravel began his political journey in 1981 through the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). He later became a full-time functionary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and was elected as councillor for ward 23 in the Sellur area in 2022.
Kumaravel was widely recognized for his grassroots involvement and his prompt redressal of civic issues in his constituency. His sudden demise has left a void in the local political landscape, with many colleagues and residents expressing their condolences.
