Residents of Lucknow bundled up on Thursday as a sharp surge of cold, icy winds originating from the Himalayan region swept across the city, making the winter day feel exceptionally chilly.
A Chilly Day Despite the Sunshine
Even though the sun was visible in the sky, its warming effect was largely neutralized by the persistent icy winds. This combination led to a day that felt much colder than the recorded temperatures suggested. The maximum and minimum temperatures for the day were recorded at 16.9 and 6.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
Weather Department's Forecast: A Brief Respite
According to the state meteorological department, the city is set to get a temporary break from the intense cold. Senior scientist Mohammad Danish provided a detailed outlook for the coming days.
He stated that the city is likely to witness some sunny relief over the next two days, leading to an improvement in daytime temperatures. However, this reprieve will be short-lived. The cold conditions are expected to make a comeback after two or more days.
Detailed Forecast for Friday and Beyond
For Friday, the weather office predicts shallow to moderate fog during the forenoon hours, with the sky clearing up later in the day. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 19 and 7 degrees Celsius.
A key concern remains the possibility of dense to very dense fog over the area during the morning hours. Meanwhile, for the rest of the state, the weather is most likely to remain dry, with dense fog expected at isolated places.
In summary, while Lucknowites can look forward to slightly warmer afternoons for the next 48 hours, they should prepare for the return of colder days and be cautious of reduced visibility due to fog in the early mornings.
