Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal Demands Action on Delayed Municipal HQ Construction
During a surprise inspection of the under-construction Lucknow Municipal Corporation headquarters in Gomti Nagar on Friday, Mayor Sushma Kharakwal reprimanded officials for negligence and sought a detailed explanation for the ongoing delay in the project. The inspection, which took place without prior notice, highlighted significant issues that have hindered progress at the construction site.
Mayor Questions Delays and Obstructions
Mayor Kharakwal expressed frustration over the lack of action regarding key obstacles. She specifically questioned why a petrol pump and a workshop, which have been obstructing the construction work, have not been shifted despite clear directions issued over a year ago. This delay has caused a major bottleneck in the project timeline, raising concerns about the efficiency of the municipal administration.
During the inspection, the Mayor pulled up Chief Engineer RR Manoj Prabhat, holding him accountable for the lapses. She directed that the petrol pump be shifted immediately to ensure that construction work can proceed without any further interruptions. This directive aims to eliminate the physical barriers that have stalled progress and to accelerate the completion of the headquarters.
Officials Present and Accountability Emphasized
Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar was also present during the inspection, underscoring the importance of the visit. The presence of top officials indicates the seriousness with which the Mayor is addressing the delays. The surprise nature of the inspection served as a wake-up call for the municipal team, emphasizing the need for greater accountability and prompt action in public projects.
Mayor Kharakwal's actions reflect a broader push for transparency and efficiency in urban development initiatives in Lucknow. By demanding immediate solutions, she aims to set a precedent for timely execution of civic projects, ensuring that residents benefit from improved infrastructure without unnecessary delays.
