A poultry farmer in Uttar Pradesh has alleged that over 100 chickens died due to the loud music played at a wedding ceremony in the vicinity. The incident took place in the state's Etah district, where the farmer, identified as Rakesh Kumar, owns a poultry farm.
Incident Details
According to the farmer, the wedding celebrations on the night of February 25 featured extremely loud music that continued for several hours. The high-decibel sound caused distress among the chickens, leading to their deaths. Kumar stated that the chickens were found dead the next morning, and he attributed the mortality to the noise pollution.
Complaint Filed
Kumar filed a complaint at the local police station against the DJ operator and the wedding organizers. He demanded action under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
The farmer estimated his loss at around Rs 50,000. He mentioned that similar incidents have occurred in the past, but this was the worst. The chickens were of the broiler breed, which is sensitive to loud noises.
Expert Opinion
Veterinary experts confirm that loud noises can cause stress in poultry, leading to heart attacks or panic-induced deaths. They advise farmers to take precautions during festivities in nearby areas.
This incident has sparked a debate on noise pollution and its impact on animal life. Local authorities are reviewing noise level regulations for events.
