The Karnataka government has announced that the final decision on the controversial link canal project will be taken after a meeting between Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. The announcement comes amid allegations from residents of Kunigal taluk that the water earmarked for their region is not reaching them.
Project Details and Allegations
The link canal project aims to transfer water from the Yettinahole river to drought-prone areas in Karnataka. However, people in Kunigal have claimed that despite the project being operational, the promised water supply has not materialized. Local leaders have raised concerns about the distribution mechanism and have demanded immediate action.
According to sources, the CM-DCM meeting is expected to address these grievances and finalize the project's implementation strategy. The government has assured that all stakeholders will be consulted before any decision is made.
Government's Response
A senior official stated, "The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will review the project's progress and discuss the concerns raised by the Kunigal residents. The final decision will be based on technical feasibility and equitable distribution." The meeting is scheduled for next week.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have criticized the delay and accused the government of neglecting the needs of farmers in the region. The link canal project is a key initiative under the state's water management plan, with an estimated cost of ₹10,000 crore.
