Kerala LDF Intensifies Demand for Municipal Chairperson's Resignation Over Qualification Allegations
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has significantly escalated its demand for the immediate resignation of Muvattupuzha municipal chairperson Joice Mary Antony. This move follows the recent admission of a petition by the Muvattupuzha Munsiff Court, which seeks Antony's disqualification from office. Discrepancies in Educational Qualification Declarations
According to LDF officials, the controversy centers on discrepancies in Antony's educational declarations across different election cycles. In her 2015 nomination papers, as mandated under Section 108(1A) of the Kerala Municipal Act, Antony declared that she had completed her senior secondary education, submitting Form No 2A as proof.
However, in her 2020 filing, she reportedly stated that she obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in 2020 from Arunodaya University. LDF leaders have claimed that this latter assertion is false, alleging inconsistencies that undermine the integrity of her candidacy and current tenure.
CPM Leader Condemns Alleged Democratic Challenge
CPM area secretary Aneesh M Mathew, in a statement to the media, emphasized the gravity of the situation. He argued that continuing in office after allegedly furnishing false educational qualifications amounts to a direct challenge to democratic principles and electoral ethics.
Mathew further alleged that despite receiving the court notice, the respondent did not accept it, which has raised suspicions about potential attempts to create duplicate certificates or manipulate documentation. This has led to calls for a thorough investigation into the matter to uphold the rule of law and public trust.
