A tragic incident in Kerala's Kollam district has left a family shattered and a community in shock. A 43-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son were discovered dead inside their residence on Friday night, in what police are investigating as a case of unnatural death.
Discovery of the Tragedy
The grim discovery was made after a close relative of the woman, identified as Laina, grew increasingly concerned. Repeated attempts to contact the family over the phone had failed, prompting the worried relative to personally visit their home. Upon arrival, the relative found the main gate and the house doors locked from the inside, raising immediate alarm.
Neighbours were quickly alerted, and a subsequent inspection of the premises led to the harrowing discovery. Laina was found hanging from a ceiling fan in one bedroom, while her son, Pranav, a polytechnic student, was discovered hanging from a window in another bedroom. Emergency services were called, but both were declared dead at the scene.
Family Details and Immediate Aftermath
Police confirmed that only the mother and son were present in the house at the time of the incident. The family's younger son is currently pursuing his studies in Ernakulam and was not at home. The news of the double tragedy reached Laina's husband, Premji, who was working abroad. He has since returned to Kerala to be with his family.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Following the necessary procedures, the last rites were performed. The Parippally police have officially registered a case of unnatural death and launched a detailed investigation to piece together the events leading to this heartbreaking outcome.
