Kerala Chief Minister Credits Governance Continuity for Major Infrastructure Development
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized on Sunday that continuity in governance has been the driving force behind Kerala's unprecedented development, pointing to a series of major infrastructure projects completed in recent years. He made these remarks while inaugurating the newly constructed Sathyan Nagar–Mudavanmugal bridge in Thiruvananthapuram.
New Bridge Ends Six-Decade Wait for Local Residents
The Sathyan Nagar–Mudavanmugal bridge, which concludes a 62-year wait for area residents, connects the Estate ward with Mudavanmugal ward and is expected to significantly improve local connectivity. Constructed at a cost of Rs 13 crore, the bridge spans 26.9 meters in length with a total width of 13 meters.
Multiple Infrastructure Projects Highlighted as Achievements
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted several other key infrastructure initiatives. He mentioned the recently inaugurated Perumbalam bridge in Alappuzha, whose construction began in 2016 and was completed in 2026, providing a long-awaited connection for island residents to the mainland.
Another significant project cited was the reconstruction of the Alappuzha–Changanassery Road, which previously used to be submerged during heavy rainfall. The minister also pointed to the construction of a tetrapod sea wall in Chellanam, which has proven effective in protecting coastal homes from severe flooding during monsoon seasons.
Governance Continuity Enables Project Realization
"These kinds of major infrastructure projects could be realised because of continuity in governance," the Chief Minister stated emphatically. He explained that the state government had set an ambitious target of completing 100 bridges after assuming office in 2021 and successfully achieved this goal within just three years.
Remarkably, the number of bridges completed has now surpassed 150 and continues to progress toward the 200 mark, demonstrating sustained momentum in infrastructure development across the state.
