Political Battle Intensifies for Karimnagar Mayor Position
The political arena in Karimnagar Corporation is witnessing heightened activity as major parties strategically position themselves for the upcoming mayor's election. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Congress are actively campaigning, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expresses confidence in securing the seat with independent corporator support. This has prompted Congress leaders to develop counter-strategies to challenge the BJP's efforts.
Congress and BJP Adopt Resort Politics Strategy
On Sunday, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the Congress party remains firmly in contention and is optimistic about winning the mayor's seat. The party has established a camp at the Leonia resort in Shamirpet, located on Hyderabad's outskirts, where discussions and planning sessions are underway. Similarly, the BJP has implemented a comparable approach, coordinating its election plans alongside several independent corporators.
Sources reveal that ministers Sridhar Babu and Tummala Nageswara Rao have engaged with corporators to deliberate on election strategies. Reports indicate a significant shift in allegiances, with two of the four independent corporators who initially supported the BJP now aligning with the Congress camp. This development leaves the BJP one vote short of the crucial 36 required for a majority in Karimnagar, while Congress appears positioned to potentially alter the electoral arithmetic through ex-officio and independent support.
Corporator's Controversial Stance Creates Unease
The ongoing camp politics has placed the BJP on high alert, particularly following recent actions by corporator Saijyoti. After joining the BJP in the presence of Bandi Sanjay, she generated controversy by releasing a video statement declaring her intention to vote according to her personal preference in the mayoral election scheduled for February 16. She further indicated plans to leave town due to her children's health concerns and warned of filing a police complaint if protests occurred outside her residence. Her ambiguous stance has created considerable unease within BJP ranks.
The Congress has stationed its corporators, along with some independents, at the Shamirpet Leonia resort, where continuous discussions are taking place. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Mahesh Kumar Goud is expected to conduct pivotal discussions regarding the mayoral contest, adding another layer to the political dynamics.
Election Atmosphere Remains Tense
With camp politics continuing unabated in Karimnagar Corporation, political tensions remain elevated. BJP leaders are particularly concerned about Saijyoti's shifting position. Following the election results, she formally joined the BJP, but her recent video statement has fueled widespread speculation about her true intentions. Her mention of departing the city due to family health matters and the warning about potential police complaints has contributed to a charged atmosphere, with concerns mounting that she might ultimately align with the Congress camp.
The political landscape remains fluid as all parties intensify their efforts in the final days before the crucial mayoral election, with each seeking to secure the necessary majority through strategic alliances and careful vote management.
