In a swift breakthrough, Tahbarpur police in Azamgarh district apprehended a juvenile offender on Tuesday night for the murder of a 22-year-old man during a wedding function on Monday night. The accused allegedly lured the victim, Suraj Prajapati, under the pretext of helping him fetch disposable utensils. Once Suraj accompanied him, the juvenile struck him with a brick, killing him instantly, and then dumped the body in nearby bushes.
Details of the Incident
The crime came to light on Tuesday morning when Ramdhri Prajapati, a resident of Nasiruddinpur village, filed a missing complaint with Tahbarpur police. He reported that his nephew, Suraj Prajapati, had gone to a wedding function the previous evening and had not returned. Suspecting foul play, the police launched a search operation and soon discovered Suraj's body in the bushes of the village graveyard.
Investigation and Arrest
During the investigation, a police informer provided a tip-off about the suspect's movements. Acting on the information, the police cordoned off the area near the Naipura underpass and successfully apprehended the juvenile. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder, revealing that it was the result of an old enmity. He admitted that he had planned the killing and, on the pretext of collecting leaf plates, took Suraj on a motorcycle to a deserted canal bank. There, he struck him from behind with a brick that was already lying at the spot, causing fatal injuries.
Police officials confirmed that they recovered blood-stained clothes and shoes worn by the accused on the day of the crime, along with a mobile phone and a motorcycle. The juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday, as per legal procedures.
Azamgarh's CO (Budhanpur) Kaustubh Tripathi praised the Tahbarpur police for solving the case within 24 hours of the missing person report. He emphasized the importance of timely action and community cooperation in cracking the case. The police continue to investigate the motive behind the old dispute that led to the brutal murder.
