Jaleel Defends Natesan's Remarks, Criticizes IUML's Narrative on Malappuram
Jaleel Defends Natesan, Slams IUML Over Malappuram Remarks

Kozhikode witnessed a political defense as Left-backed independent MLA K T Jaleel stood by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan's contentious statements. Jaleel clarified that Natesan's remarks originated from his negative encounters with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) when it participated in the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

Jaleel Questions Interpretation of Remarks

Jaleel emphasized that interpreting Natesan's comments as anti-Muslim or targeting Malappuram district entirely is incorrect. He pointed out that Malappuram is a diverse area housing Muslims, Hindus, and other communities. According to him, framing any statement about Malappuram as solely against Muslims is a deliberate narrative pushed by IUML as a safety mechanism.

Drawing Parallels with Other Districts

"If someone makes a comment about Thiruvananthapuram or Kollam, can it be termed as being against Hindus, who form the majority there? No one argues that way," Jaleel stated. He warned that projecting remarks about Malappuram as attacks on Muslims is dangerous and misleading.

Criticism of IUML's Role

Jaleel noted that leaders from opposing sides frequently make similar statements. He mentioned that several Muslim organization leaders utter such remarks, but they often go unnoticed as they are ignored. He questioned whether those comments could be labeled as anti-Hindu.

Long-standing Association and Its Implications

Highlighting the historical ties, Jaleel revealed that IUML has maintained close connections with Natesan for decades, dating back to when he led the Pinnokka Samudaya Munnani. He argued that if, after such a prolonged association, Natesan has failed to properly comprehend Malappuram or IUML, it reflects a failure on IUML's part.

Jaleel's defense underscores ongoing political tensions in Kerala, focusing on community narratives and inter-party dynamics.
