Vijayawada: YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed serious concern over what he described as systematic attempts to delete a large number of genuine voters from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiated by the Election Commission of India. He warned that such deletions could significantly impact election outcomes. Addressing party leaders at the YSRCP central office on Wednesday, Jagan urged the party cadre to remain vigilant against the removal of legitimate voters and the inclusion of bogus and duplicate votes ahead of the upcoming local body elections.
Allegations of Widespread Deletions
Jagan noted that several political parties across the country have raised alarms over the deletion of genuine votes during electoral roll revisions in states such as West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He claimed that even a small number of deleted votes in each village could cumulatively alter constituency-level results. He further alleged the presence of bogus and duplicate votes linked to the TDP and instructed party members to scrutinize electoral rolls closely.
Specific Concerns in Kuppam
Referring to the Kuppam constituency, Jagan claimed there were thousands of suspicious entries in the voters' list, including repeated names and identical family details. He directed party leaders to identify fake votes, prevent the deletion of genuine voters, and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Comparisons with Other States
The YSRCP chief cited the recent electoral defeats of DMK chief Stalin and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, attributing them to the revision of electoral rolls. He announced a statewide agitation program from June 4 to June 12 under the title “two years of backstabbing,” accusing the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government of betraying public trust and failing to fulfill election promises.
Jagan emphasized that the party would intensify its efforts to safeguard the democratic process and ensure fair elections. He called on all party workers to remain alert and proactive in protecting the rights of genuine voters.
