Hyderabad CM Revanth Reddy Directs Municipal Chiefs for Comprehensive Clean City Initiative

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday issued directives to the commissioners of the three municipal corporations within the core urban area of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), aiming to transform Greater Hyderabad into a cleaner and more sustainable city. This initiative is part of a detailed 99-day action plan focused on improving urban sanitation and public health.

Key Measures for Urban Cleanliness

During a review meeting with senior officials from the municipal corporations in the CURE area, the CM emphasized several critical steps to enhance cleanliness. He mandated daily garbage collection within the core urban region and advocated for the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for waste lifting operations. Each EV should be assigned to a specific zone and subjected to continuous monitoring to ensure efficiency.

In light of Hyderabad's expansion up to the ORR, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to expedite the preparation of newly identified dumping yards. "Move garbage to nearby dumping yards on a corporation-wise basis and ensure proper oversight of house-to-house collection," he stated. Additionally, he called for strict measures to manage construction debris, requiring it to be deposited only at designated points with special arrangements for removal.

Public Health and Mosquito Control

The CM also highlighted the importance of controlling mosquito breeding and providing adequate medical treatment for seasonal diseases. All necessary measures must be implemented to safeguard residents' health, particularly in urban areas prone to such issues.

Rural Development Initiatives

Earlier in the day, CM Revanth directed officials from the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development departments to launch innovative programmes across six levels to strengthen rural governance. These initiatives include:

  • Rural Sanitation: A special drive from March 6 to 15, focusing on cleaning roads, removing sewage, and maintaining public spaces like schools and markets.
  • Drinking Water Supply: From April 1 to 15, efforts will target identifying and fixing issues in the drinking water network, utilizing funds from Gram Panchayats and the 15th Finance Commission.
  • Garbage Management: From April 16 to 30, programmes will promote separate collection of wet and dry waste, compost preparation, and safe disposal of e-waste and biomedical waste.
  • Pre-Monsoon Preparations: From May 16 to 31, activities will include unclogging stormwater drains, mosquito control through pesticide spraying, and maintenance of rural infrastructure.

These drives aim to enhance rural cleanliness, income generation, and overall system resilience through coordinated efforts and financial support from both State and Central resources.
