Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Intensifies Cleaning Drive Post Major Festival
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has significantly ramped up its sanitation efforts in the aftermath of the Siddharoodha Mutt Jatra Rathotsav, a prominent religious festival held in the region. Municipal authorities reported the successful clearance of a substantial 85 tonnes of accumulated waste from the festival grounds and surrounding areas.
Detailed Breakdown of Waste Composition
According to official data released by the HDMC, the collected waste comprised two primary categories. A significant portion, estimated between 40 to 50 tonnes, was classified as dry waste. This category predominantly included discarded polythene materials, disposable areca plates, paper plates, and various paper cups used by the large number of devotees and visitors.
Concurrently, municipal workers segregated and collected approximately 30 tonnes of wet waste. This organic waste typically consists of food scraps, biodegradable materials, and other compostable refuse generated during the festive activities and public gatherings.
Municipal Response and Operational Scale
The cleaning operation represents a concerted effort by the HDMC to manage the environmental impact of large-scale public events. The corporation deployed additional sanitation staff and machinery to handle the post-festival cleanup, focusing on restoring normalcy and hygiene in the Hubballi area swiftly.
Such intensive drives are crucial for maintaining public health standards and preventing the spread of vector-borne diseases that can arise from accumulated garbage. The HDMC's prompt action underscores its commitment to urban cleanliness and effective municipal governance in Karnataka.
