In a significant administrative overhaul, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has declared that the historic town of Hansi will be formally elevated to become the state's 23rd district. The official notification for this long-awaited upgrade is expected to be issued within the next week.
A Historic Announcement and Development Push
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Saini during a public rally in Hansi on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Marking the occasion as a major development milestone, he simultaneously inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for three key projects with a combined worth of Rs 77.30 crore.
Saini emphasized that the decision to grant district status to Hansi underscores the state government's commitment to decentralized and region-focused governance. This move is anticipated to streamline revenue administration and accelerate local development from an official standpoint.
Honoring a Legacy of Valour
The Chief Minister paid rich tribute to Hansi's profound historical and cultural legacy. He described the town as a "land of valour and sacrifice," highlighting its pivotal role in the First War of Independence in 1857.
Delving deeper into history, he noted that Hansi, formerly known as Asi and Asigarh, once served as the capital of the Satluj province during the reign of Emperor Harsha. This elevation to district status is seen as a modern recognition of its ancient historical importance.
Showcasing Development and Welfare Achievements
Using the platform to highlight his government's track record, CM Saini presented a comparative analysis of development funding. He stated that projects worth a substantial Rs 1,008 crore have been executed in the Hansi Assembly constituency over the past 11 years. In contrast, he claimed only Rs 253 crore was spent during the previous Congress regime.
The Chief Minister provided a detailed account of welfare initiatives and their impact:
- Over seven lakh women have received financial assistance of Rs 258 crore under the Deendayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana.
- Approximately 14.7 lakh poor families are benefiting from LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 500 per month.
- Farmers have seen Rs 1.64 lakh crore credited directly to their accounts via MSP procurement, with an additional Rs 15,448 crore disbursed as crop damage relief and insurance claims over 11 years.
He also listed key reforms including the abolition of the British-era 'Abiana', digital land registration, enhanced social security pensions, and the Ayushman Bharat–Chirayu Scheme, which has provided treatment worth over Rs 4,126 crore to more than 25 lakh beneficiaries.
Future Plans and Political Context
Looking ahead, Saini announced a fresh infusion of infrastructure projects for Hansi. A major highlight is the upgrade of the local 50-bed hospital to a 100-bed facility. Furthermore, a special grant of Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for immediate local development needs.
The announcement includes planned projects for drainage, water treatment, irrigation, road construction, power infrastructure, sports facilities, and police housing to bolster urban and rural services in the new district.
Addressing criticism from the Opposition, particularly the Congress, the Chief Minister dismissed allegations related to electoral processes as "misleading and politically motivated." He asserted that Haryana is progressing under clear policy direction and strong leadership.
The announcement was warmly welcomed by Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa and local MLA Vinod Bhayana, who hailed it as a historic decision poised to accelerate the region's growth. The rally was also addressed by several state BJP leaders and legislators who commended the government's development agenda.
