Gurgaon Election Office Conducts Training for Special Intensive Revision of Voter Rolls
The District Election Office in Gurgaon organized a comprehensive training program for electoral registration officers to enhance the efficiency of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This initiative aims to streamline processes and ensure the accuracy and transparency of voter lists in the region.
Training Session Details and Key Attendees
The training session was held at the PWD Rest House and attended by officers from South Haryana. State-level master trainer and Rohtak Tehsildar Sarla Kaushik led the session, providing detailed explanations on various procedures. These included the special revision process, new voter registration, corrections, disposal of claims and objections, and methods to maintain error-free electoral rolls.
A total of 56 officials participated in the program, including notable figures such as SDM Gurgaon Parmjeet Chahal, SDM Badshahpur Sanjeev Singla, SDM Pataudi Dinesh, SDM Manesar Darshan Yadav, SDM Sohna Akhilesh, OSD Simran from the divisional commissioner's office, CTM Sapna Yadav, and election tehsildar Rajneesh Sehrawat.
Progress of the Special Intensive Revision in Haryana
The SIR began with house-to-house verification, which involves checking photographs, addresses, and identifying deceased voters. In Haryana, election offices have already completed field verification, Booth Level Officer (BLO) mapping, and preliminary roll corrections. This proactive approach ensures that the electoral rolls are up-to-date and reliable.
In Gurgaon district specifically, officials have updated entries for shifted voters, initiated bulk correction of errors, and launched school-level campaigns to register first-time voters aged 18 to 19. Claims and objections are being continuously received through both offline forms and the NVSP/ECI voter portal, facilitating a transparent and accessible process.
Current Status and Voter Statistics
The publication of the draft electoral roll has been completed, and authorities are currently inviting claims and objections to further refine the list. Haryana currently boasts approximately 2.03 crore voters, with Gurgaon district contributing over 15.5 lakh voters to this total.
Between 2014 and 2019, nearly 1.6 lakh new voters were added in Gurgaon district, while between 2019 and 2024, around 90,000 voters were added. These figures highlight the ongoing efforts to expand and update the voter base in the region.
Pre-SIR Exercise and BLO Activities
As part of the pre-Special Intensive Revision exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state have started matching the names of voters with the 2002 voters' list. This process targets voters whose names were not listed in the 2002 electoral rolls but whose parents' or grandparents' names were included.
BLOs are conducting door-to-door visits to collect and verify voter information, ensuring that all eligible individuals are accurately registered. This meticulous approach aims to eliminate discrepancies and enhance the integrity of the electoral process.
