CM Patel to GSRTC Drivers: Govt's Image Built on Your Services, 4742 Get Jobs
Govt's image rests on your services: Gujarat CM to drivers

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel underscored the pivotal role of state transport drivers, stating that the public perception of the government is fundamentally shaped by the quality of service they provide. The CM made these remarks while addressing a large gathering at a ceremony to distribute appointment letters to thousands of new hires for the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).

Mass Recruitment Drive at Mahatma Mandir

The event, held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre in Gandhinagar on Friday, marked a significant boost to public transport staffing. A total of 3084 drivers and 1658 helper-level officials formally received their appointment letters, securing employment with the state-run corporation. The function was attended by key dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of State for Transport Pravin Mali, Gandhinagar Mayor Meeraben Patel, and Chief Secretary M K Das.

"Passengers Sleep Because They Trust You": CM's Message

In his address, CM Patel placed immense emphasis on the responsibility shouldered by GSRTC drivers. He highlighted that their job extends beyond merely operating a vehicle; it involves safeguarding the lives and trust of countless citizens. "Specially, you have such a big responsibility," Patel said. "All the passengers in the bus are travelling without any worry with trust on you. They even sleep. Why do they sleep? Because they trust you; that they will be dropped at their destination peacefully."

He urged the drivers to cultivate mental resilience and maintain composure under all circumstances. Acknowledging that everyone faces personal challenges, the CM stressed that the ability to perform duties with a calm mind is crucial for safe driving. "The government’s image is built on the basis of the services done by you," he affirmed, directly linking the frontline workers' performance to the administration's reputation.

GSRTC Implements Nominal Fare Hike

In a related development, the GSRTC had announced a fare increase of three per cent across the state, effective from December 31. According to the corporation, the hike has been structured to minimize the impact on short-distance travelers. For journeys up to 9 km, there will be no change in fare. For travel between 10 to 60 km, passengers will see a nominal increase of just one rupee. The GSRTC noted that approximately 85% of its local service passengers, or around 10 lakh people, travel distances under 48 km.

The twin announcements—mass recruitment and a calibrated fare revision—signal the state government's focus on strengthening public transport infrastructure while managing operational costs. The CM's speech clearly framed the drivers not just as employees, but as essential ambassadors whose conduct directly influences citizen satisfaction and trust in governance.
