A devastating late-night accident on a national highway in Maharashtra's Gondia district has resulted in three fatalities and left forty others injured, eight of whom are in critical condition. The tragic collision involved a speeding travel bus and a stationary truck near Deori.
Midnight Horror on National Highway
The accident occurred around midnight near Dhobisarad village. According to preliminary reports, a truck had come to a halt on the highway after running out of fuel. The Kanker Travels bus, operating its daily route between Kawardha and Chandrapur, crashed into the parked truck at high speed. The bus was carrying over 50 passengers at the time of the incident.
Victims Were Migrant Workers
The deceased and injured were all migrant workers from Kawardha and Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, who were traveling to Chandrapur for work. Sunita Hemlal Baghele, a 35-year-old resident of Khairagarh, died on the spot. Two other victims, who are yet to be identified, succumbed to their injuries while being transported to the hospital.
The loud impact of the crash alerted villagers from Dhobisaral, who rushed to the site to provide immediate assistance. Police were also quickly alerted and reached the location. Local villagers from Deori played a crucial role in helping shift the injured to medical facilities.
Emergency Medical Response
All the injured were initially rushed to the Deori Rural Hospital for emergency treatment. Medical professionals, Dr. Amit Yede and Dr. Neha Mular, worked through the night to treat the 40 injured passengers. Given the severity of injuries, eleven critically wounded passengers were referred to the Gondia Government Hospital for advanced care.
In a further tragic turn, two of these critically injured patients died while en route to Nagpur for even more specialized treatment. As of now, eight passengers remain in a critical condition under medical supervision. The incident highlights the grave dangers on national highways, especially at night, and the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers during travel.
