Major Road Accident in Ganjam District Leaves 12 Injured, Five in Critical Condition
A serious road accident occurred on Sunday near Pilikadhia village in Ganjam district, resulting in injuries to a dozen individuals, with five of them sustaining critical wounds. The incident took place on the Bankeswari temple road under the jurisdiction of the Digapahandi police station.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victims, who are residents of Harina and Dharampur villages, were traveling in a pick-up van when it overturned unexpectedly. According to police reports, the group was en route to the Bankeswari temple, which is situated on a hilltop, when their vehicle lost control and turned turtle on the way.
The driver of the van managed to escape unharmed as he jumped out of the vehicle just before the accident. However, the passengers were not as fortunate and suffered various degrees of injuries.
Rescue and Medical Response
Local firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and conducted a rescue operation to extricate the injured individuals. All twelve victims were initially shifted to a hospital in Digapahandi for immediate medical attention.
Among the injured, five women were found to have sustained critical injuries. Due to the severity of their condition, they were referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment. Medical authorities have stated that their condition remains serious and they are under close observation.

The Digapahandi police have seized the overturned van as part of their ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident. An official inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle overturning.
