A devastating electrocution incident in a remote village of Maharashtra's Dharashiv district has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a teenage boy. The tragedy unfolded on Saturday afternoon in Keshegaon village, located within the Tuljapur taluka, when a routine agricultural operation went horribly wrong.
The Fatal Sequence of Events
According to police officials, the incident occurred when a group of workers attempted to retrieve a faulty submersible pump from a farm well. The farm's owner, Nagnath Sakhare (56), had enlisted help to remove the non-functional equipment. To facilitate the extraction, the team used a large crane fitted with a pulley system.
Assistant Inspector Anand Kangune of the Naldurg police provided a grim account. "The crane, however, got disoriented and fell on a high-voltage power cable passing through the field," he stated. This critical failure brought the heavy machinery into direct contact with the live wire, creating an immediate and lethal hazard.
Victims Identified in the Tragedy
All four individuals present at the site suffered a powerful electric shock as they were in contact with the metal parts of the crane. The shock proved instantly fatal. The deceased have been identified as farm owner Nagnath Sakhare, his son Ramling Sakhare (30), a worker named Kashim Phulari (47), and his young son Ratan Phulari, who was just 16 years old.
The loss of Ratan, a minor, adds a particularly heart-wrenching dimension to the accident, highlighting the dangers that can accompany farm work involving machinery and infrastructure.
Investigation and Official Response
Following the accident, the local police swiftly arrived at the scene and registered a case of accidental death. In addition to the law enforcement response, a technical team from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) visited the spot to assess the circumstances.
The officials carried out a detailed panchanama (spot inspection and inquest report) to document the evidence and understand the precise chain of events that led to the catastrophic failure. The investigation aims to determine if any safety protocols were overlooked and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present dangers posed by high-voltage power lines, especially in rural and agricultural settings where heavy machinery is often in use. It underscores the critical need for extreme caution and adherence to safety measures when working near electrical infrastructure.
