Lucknow: Former Lucknow University (LU) Vice-Chancellor and social activist Professor Roop Rekha Verma on Monday expressed her support for the three expelled LU students who have been protesting against the administration's decision for the past few days.
Background of the Expulsion
The expelled students claim they were protesting against a fee hike in certain courses when the university expelled them on charges of obstructing the Vice-Chancellor's movement and attempting to damage his car.
Support from Other Figures
Former LU Teachers Association (LUTA) president Neeraj Jain and Lucknow Central MLA Ravidas Mehrotra also joined the protest in solidarity with the students. Professor Verma emphasized the importance of hearing students out and following due process before taking such strict measures. She stated, "Students must be heard, and due process must be followed before such strict action is taken. Expulsion should be the last resort."
The incident has sparked a debate on campus regarding the administration's handling of student protests and the proportionality of disciplinary actions.
