Ex-Councillor Storms Kollam Police Station, Threatens Cop

A former councillor and Communist Party of India (Marxist) activist, along with a group of his supporters, allegedly forced his way into a police station in Kollam on Sunday, issuing death threats against a sub-inspector and creating a major law and order scare within the premises.

Former Councillor Leads Police Station Invasion

The accused has been identified as M Saji, the former councillor of the Pallimukku division in the Kollam Corporation. The dramatic incident at the Eravipuram police station occurred on the very same day that Saji officially stepped down from his position as the chairman of the corporation's welfare standing committee.

According to the police complaint, Saji, accompanied by his supporters, entered the police station and marched directly into the cabin of Sub-Inspector R U Ranjith. It was inside the SI's office that Saji allegedly issued direct death threats to the police officer.

Alleged Attempts to Assault Officer and Damage Property

The situation escalated rapidly from verbal threats to physical intimidation. Police officials have stated that Saji also attempted to assault SI Ranjith during the confrontation. Furthermore, in a fit of rage, the accused and his group allegedly tried to damage the grill gate of the police station, adding charges of vandalism to the serious allegations.

The brazen act, carried out in broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon, sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community. It represented a direct challenge to police authority within their own headquarters.

Legal Repercussions and Case Filed

In response to the unprecedented incident, the police have taken swift legal action. A formal case has been registered against M Saji and ten other individuals connected to the event. The charges are expected to include criminal intimidation, attempt to assault a public servant, and possible damage to public property.

The incident raises serious questions about political influence and the safety of police personnel while on duty. The fact that the accused is a former elected representative and a member of a major political party adds a significant political dimension to the case. The police investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full sequence of events and the motive behind the aggressive act.
