An assistant sub-inspector with the Andhra Pradesh Special Protection Force (APSPF) has been suspended after he created a disturbance while intoxicated over a plate of chicken. The incident took place in the Satyanarayanapuram locality of Tirupati, drawing sharp criticism and causing significant embarrassment to the police department.
Incident Details
The drama unfolded when G Sriramulu, stationed at Tirumala, approached a local curry point while under the influence of alcohol. After ordering chicken curry and waiting for it to be packed, Sriramulu attempted to leave without paying. When the restaurant staff demanded payment, the officer falsely claimed that he was stationed at Alipiri police station and that his circle inspector had ordered the food. He then insisted that his status as a policeman exempted him from paying.
As Sriramulu was in plain clothes and visibly intoxicated, the curry point staff became suspicious. Meanwhile, some onlookers at the eatery contacted acquaintances at Alipiri police station to verify his identity. As the situation escalated, Sriramulu engaged in an argument with a customer, which quickly degenerated into a physical brawl.
Video Evidence and Arrest
The entire confrontation, including Sriramulu’s attempts to intimidate both the restaurant staff and locals, was captured on video. The footage spread rapidly across social media platforms, sparking outrage. Alipiri police officers soon reached the spot and took Sriramulu into custody. He was administered a breathalyzer test, which officially confirmed he was intoxicated. Following directives from Tirupati SP L Subbarayudu, Alipiri police registered a case against him to proceed with legal action.
Suspension Ordered
An internal inquiry further confirmed that Sriramulu instigated the brawl demanding free food and abused his authority. Following the report’s findings, APSPF inspector general BV Rami Reddy issued official orders suspending Sriramulu with immediate effect. The incident highlights the misuse of authority and the consequences of such behavior within the police force.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway. The police department has reiterated its commitment to discipline and accountability, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated.
