DMK Reschedules Major State Conference in Trichy to Avoid Festival Overlap

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has officially postponed its highly anticipated 12th state-level conference, which was originally scheduled to be held in Trichy on March 8. The event has now been shifted to March 9, according to party officials and local sources.

Site Inspection and Preparations Underway

Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru, along with district-level functionaries, conducted a thorough inspection of the conference site at Siruganur on Tuesday. The inspection focused on assessing the readiness of the venue and overseeing the preliminary work that is currently in progress.

Trichy Mayor Mu Anbalagan also joined Minister Nehru during the visit, where they reviewed the ongoing cleaning and levelling processes at the selected location. The site spans approximately 500 acres of private land, which has been earmarked for this significant political gathering.

Reason for Postponement: Temple Festival Conflict

Party sources have clarified that the decision to reschedule the conference was made to avoid a direct clash with the Poochorithal festival of the Samayapuram Mariamman temple. This major religious event attracts thousands of devotees from various districts across Tamil Nadu, potentially causing logistical challenges and overcrowding if both events were held simultaneously.

By moving the conference to March 9, the DMK aims to ensure smooth operations and prevent any inconvenience to both party cadres and festival attendees.

Massive Scale and Elaborate Arrangements

The conference, titled ‘Stalin Thodarattum, Tamil Nadu Vellattum’ (which translates to ‘Let Stalin Continue, Let Tamil Nadu Win’), is expected to be a grand affair. Organizers anticipate the attendance of around 10 lakh (1 million) party cadres, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the state recently.

To accommodate this massive crowd, extensive preparations are being made:

  • Infrastructure Development: Roads are being planned within the venue to facilitate the movement of Chief Minister M K Stalin and other senior functionaries, allowing them to approach and interact with the cadres effectively.
  • Logistical Support: Food arrangements are being organized to cater to at least 3 lakh (300,000) cadres, ensuring that basic amenities are provided for the attendees.
  • Entry and Access: The entry point to the venue is designed to be 1,000 feet wide, aimed at managing the influx of participants efficiently and preventing bottlenecks.

This conference is seen as a crucial event for the DMK, highlighting its organizational strength and mobilizing support ahead of future political endeavors. The postponement reflects the party’s consideration for local cultural and religious sentiments, while still pushing forward with its ambitious plans for a successful and impactful gathering.
