CPM Unveils Comprehensive Tamil Nadu Manifesto in Chennai
In a significant political development, Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary P Shanmugam officially released the party's detailed manifesto for Tamil Nadu on Monday. The event took place at the CPM's state headquarters in Chennai, marking a key moment in the party's campaign strategy.
Legal Framework for Gig Workers
The manifesto places strong emphasis on addressing the precarious situation faced by lakhs of gig workers across the state. The left party highlighted that these workers currently operate without any legal protection or formal recognition. CPM has committed to taking concrete steps to officially recognize gig workers as legitimate workers, bringing them under a comprehensive legal framework that would ensure their rights and welfare are safeguarded.
Infrastructure and Facilities for Workers
Beyond legal recognition, the manifesto outlines specific infrastructure promises aimed at improving working conditions. The party pledges to establish dedicated resting places equipped with toilets, specifically targeting women auto drivers and gig workers who often lack access to basic facilities during their work hours. This initiative is designed to provide dignity and essential amenities to these vital segments of the workforce.
Governance and Urban Planning Reforms
The CPM's policy document also addresses broader governance and urban development issues. It includes a firm commitment to fight against what the party describes as "customary powers" granted to governors, aiming to streamline administrative processes. Additionally, the manifesto calls for the creation of separate lanes for walking and cycling in urban areas, promoting sustainable transportation and pedestrian safety as part of urban planning reforms.
Cultural and Archaeological Demands
In a move connecting policy with cultural heritage, the CPM has urged the central government to release detailed reports on the Keeladi and Adichanallur archaeological excavations. These sites are of significant historical importance in Tamil Nadu, and the party emphasizes transparency and public access to findings that shed light on the region's ancient civilizations.
The manifesto release by P Shanmugam underscores CPM's focus on worker rights, urban infrastructure, and cultural preservation as core pillars of its political agenda in Tamil Nadu.
