CPM Treats Ambalapuzha Assembly Contest as Prestige Battle, Mobilizes Full Force
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has declared the Ambalapuzha assembly constituency contest a matter of immense pride, resolving to deploy all available resources to secure a decisive win. This strategic directive was communicated to regional leaders following a crucial district secretariat meeting convened at the Alappuzha district committee office on Saturday, with state secretary M V Govindan presiding over the discussions.
Leadership Warns of Significant Setback if Ambalapuzha is Lost
Senior leaders participating in the meeting expressed a unanimous opinion that losing the Ambalapuzha seat would constitute a substantial political blow to the party, even in a scenario where the Left Democratic Front (LDF) manages to retain overall power in the state. Consequently, the party has been explicitly instructed to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to defeat the opposition candidate, G Sudhakaran.
Campaign activities are set to be intensified dramatically from the grassroots level upwards. The primary focus will be a dual-pronged approach: vigorously campaigning to secure votes for the official LDF candidate, H Salam, while simultaneously ensuring that the votes of the party cadre are fully consolidated and delivered.
Organizational Overhaul and Strategic Messaging
In a significant organizational restructuring, the party has decided to enhance its booth-level management. Previously, a single party worker was responsible for overseeing six polling booths. This system will now be reorganized, with the responsibility being narrowed down to just two booths per worker, allowing for more focused and effective voter engagement.
While leaders acknowledged that G Sudhakaran's departure from the party has not disrupted the CPM's organizational framework, they emphasized that this internal stability must be clearly reflected in the election results. The party is aiming for a notable increase in its vote share compared to the previous assembly and local body elections.
Special attention will be paid to votes that may be swaying among party members and their families, with concerted efforts directed at turning them firmly in favor of the LDF candidate. During systematic house visits, party workers have been directed to clearly articulate the CPM's official stance on the issues surrounding G Sudhakaran.
Countering Allegations and Preparing for High-Profile Visits
The leadership also outlined a plan to deliver a robust response to remarks made by Sudhakaran against district and state party leaders, as well as the Chief Minister. Furthermore, the truth behind allegations concerning the vandalism of the Krishna Pillai memorial will be explained in detail by senior leaders during election public meetings and conferences.
Adding considerable weight to the campaign, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to participate in a major public meeting in Ambalapuzha on Wednesday. This meeting is expected to feature sharp criticism of G Sudhakaran. Leaders have also cautioned that care must be taken to ensure the "Sudhakaran effect" does not negatively impact the electoral prospects in nearby constituencies.
The high-level meeting saw participation from several prominent leaders, including CPM central committee member C S Sujatha, state secretariat member Saji Cherian, and district secretary R Nazar, underscoring the critical importance the party attaches to the Ambalapuzha contest.
